Current workshops proposals

 

Personal wellbeing & social education workshops

All workshops can be adapted to suit curriculum / organisations requirements / after-school projects and include preparatory warm ups, introduction of topic and stimulus, practical exploration, sharing and reflection. All workshops are open to professional and non professional alike. Workshop duration: from 3hrs (single session) to 1 week.

workshop 1: generating material
An exploratory workshop designed to revitalize, excite and inspire new ways of developing performative material combining text, movement and visual art, encouraging participants to generate and share original solo and group work.

For those with an interest in experimental performance, live art and installation this workshop will:

• strengthen the imaginative vision of the performer and maker, celebrating the individual’s instincts and impulses.
• encourage and explore tools for devising; association led verbal and non verbal improvisation, relationship between form and content, re-definition and re-interpretation of notions of behaviour, props, and space.
• combine various art forms in order to create highly visual, emotional and thought provoking material.

workshop 2: who is afraid of the colour red?
A red that doesn’t give a damn. A revolutionary red. A poppy, ruby, cherry, cochineal, crimson, vermillion, brick, cardinal, geranium, bloody, bargain and blushing red.
Why this attraction or repulsion to red?

For those with an interest in experimental performance, live art, installation and colour.

Drawing inspiration from fine art and performance this workshop considers theory, movement, observation, discussion and practice. Through emotional, visual and physical led vocabularies participants will explore how the colour red can define, inform, influence and alter interpretation and meaning in performative art.

Workshops 3, 4 & 5 are flexible exploratory workshops for diverse community / minority groups, designed to increase possibilities which stimulate change and growth.

Through physical and visual improvisations, memories, and dreams, using impulse, props, sound, text, humour and space A2 will work with participants to:

• explore individual and shared responsibilities, cause and effect, positive and negative feelings, irrational ideas and beliefs, the gap between reality and fantasy and letting go.
• improve and encourage coping skills, confidence and re-connection with inner self.
• build personal and social self esteem, encouraging individuality and communication within a group.
• create material informed by individual personalities, experiences, skills and physical abilities.

workshop 4: cause & effect
will explore:
• how actions and thoughts affect feelings about others and ourselves.
• different ways of seeing the same problem - Making changes through the exploration of new meanings to situations or things.
• Learnt behavior patterns. The choice between two actions, two thoughts and their consequences.

workshop 5 - when does the beginning suddenly appear?
For those with an interest in experimental performance and in exploring our biggest fear Death - in order to look at life.

Drawing on A2 workshops in Palliative care and utilising materials gathered through experimental performance, movement, music and text this workshop will explore

• Whether the fear of death is the underlying motivation for all human actions and thoughts?
• Different ways of seeing our shared fear of dying.
• Fears surrounding letting go.
• How the confrontation of this fear can influence the way we live our lives.
